Almost all of Tom Thomson's work was done in Algonquin Park during the four or five years that preceded hi death in July, 1917. His paintings are a record of the trees, rocks, rivers, lakes, skies, winds and weather of Algonquin of that period.
A passion for the wilderness dominated Thomson's painting and his life. Accuracy, vividness and exuberant joy in nature are qualities that characterize his sketches and give them lasting appeal.
It is the purpose of this account to make readers more familiar with the circumstances of Thomson's like during his Algonquin years and to help them visualize his surroundings.
Those who have travelled the canoe routes and portages of the Park will find the map and references to specific lake areas of particular interest.
Photographs and other records are included in the hope of providing a clearer picture of the man and his times.
