Catalogues of the Albertina are often hard to track as there is often confusion as to who is the editor. That's why you will, see editor unknown at times
The forward to this catalogue was written by the Director of the Albertina K A Schroder
Coordinating curator Peter Raissis
The Albertina is on of the greatest collections of Master Drawings in the world and in recent years there have been a number of international exhibitions related to its collection. Some are general introductions, others concentrate on one artist or one artist and his age.
This exhibition introduces some of the riches of the Albertina after a brief historical introduction
It is organized into 9 sections (100 drawings in total)
The Renaissance in Italy
Durer and his time
Mannerism and Early Realism in the Netherlands
The Baroque in Italy
Rubens and his time
Baroque classicism in France
Rembrandt and his time
The late baroque
The Rococo in France
There is one full colour illustration per page at the front of the book and nearly 40 pages of text commenting on the illustrations
There is an index of Artists and a bibliography
There is a good selection of both well known and less well known artists. Also there a a reasonable mix of both frequently reproduced works and lesser known works by the same artist ie the works by Durer are less well know
If you really like the Albertina you may well wish to add it to your shelves
