Alfred Bestall illustrated Rupert Bear for 30 years. His god-daughter, Caroline Bott, has lovingly collected and catalogued Bestall's work, which ranges from incisive cartoons from Punch to romantic watercolours. Many of the Rupert Bear illustrations have never been viewed publicly. His diaries, letters, photographs and other archive material create a picture of a gentle, generous man, loved by all who met him. His diaries include his experiences in the First World War and his travel diaries include remarkable journeys to Egypt as well as within his beloved Wales.
Bestall's fans include Prince Charles and Sir Paul McCartney, who has written the foreword. Rupert Bear is a nostalgic slice of time gone by that is sure to enchant all those who pick it up.
