When Bridie gets a job as a maid on the grand estate of Sir Ian of Seaton, against her better judgment, she finds herself falling in love with Sir Ian¹s brother¹s step-son, also called Ian. Ian naively feels that his father will let them marry, but Bridie expects what she gets ‹ dismissal, with Ian threatened with the loss of his inheritance. When Ian is killed during a burglary on the estate, Bridie decides she can¹t bear to live without him.
