My Friend Flika:
The first time that ken McLaughlin sees Flicka galloping past him on his family's Wyoming horse ranch, he knows she's the yearling he's been longing for. But Flicka comes from a long line of wild horses, and taming her will take more than Ken could ever have imagined. Soon, Ken is faced with an impossible choice: give up on his beautiful horse, or risk his life to fight for her.
Thunderhead:
Ken McLaughlin's mare, Flicka, gives birth to an ugly white cold that Ken's mother names Thunderhead. Although it worries the McLaughlins that the colt is so different from their others in appearance, it becomes clear as Thunderhead grows that he possesses unusual capacities of strength, speed, and intelligence. On these abilities Ken puts his hopes and dreams, as do the rest of his family in time. The young stallion becomes an incomparable racehorse, king of a wild brood of horses and the center of an absorbing story of adventure in the mountains and plains of Wyoming.
