"Tales of the Trail", by Theodore Peacock, is a book of woodland poetry.

"Tales of the Trail" was first published in 1957 by C.K.L.Y. radio station through the efforts of Mr. Neil Gregory of Lindsay, Ontario.

The preceding foreword, written by Mr. Gregory in 1957, describes Theo much as he is today. While he has retired from the trapline trail, he is still a great lover of the woods and is an active hunter. He explained to me that actually it is not "the kill" that he is interested in so much as just being in the woods.

He says that Mother Nature made a mistake when she created so many carnivorous creatures and so few herbivorous animals, however he feels no enmity toward predators when he happens onto one of their kills. He also says "I guess Nature planned it that way so it must be right and will be O.K. if man is kept under control".

I believe he knows more about wild animals and their habits than any other woodsman I have met. He really should, after having trapped continually for fifty-three trapping seasons.

"The echo of the pioneer axe, of the hunter's gun
The wail of the locomotive's whistle
And the echo of the timber wolf's call"

These words of Theo's must still linger in the minds of many of our older citizens.
So it is with deep appreciation that we take this opportunity to acknowledge and pay tribute to the God-given talent of Theo Peacock—

“A child of the wild
On whom Nature has smiled
In this land of the snowshoe and ski”
